UK leaders of Awami League- BNP want to become MP in the Bangladesh (Part-1)

Ahead of the upcoming National Parliament Election in Bangladesh, the top leaders of the Awami League-BNP expatriate in the UK have come down to the ground vigorously for nomination.

About half a dozen UK expatriate leaders of the two parties are campaigning from abroad hoping to be nominated for various seats in the country, but only a few candidates are actually on the ground in the country.

Rahima Akter, former president of United Kingdom Women’s Awami League and vice-president of United Kingdom Awami League, was a member of parliament in the last parliament in the reserved women’s seat. Current Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury is also Joint General Secretary of United Kingdom Awami League.

Habibur Rahman Habib, the current MP of Sylhet-3 seat in the current parliament, is the leader of the United Kingdom Awami League. In this seat, with Habib, in the fight for nomination among expatriate candidates UK Awami League Advisor Barrister Muhammad Monir Hossain and UK Awami League Secretary for Industry and Commerce ASM Mesbah. Barrister MA Salam, secretary of international affairs of the Central Committee and advisor to the acting chairman of BNP, has been on the ground for a long time in the hope of BNP’s nomination for this seat.

Mokabbir Khan, the current MP elected from Gonforum in Sylhet-2 seat, is also a resident of the United Kingdom. Former MP Yahia Chowdhury, who lost the election as a grand coalition candidate with Mokabbir Khan, was also a UK expatriate. In this seat, the two main contenders for the Al’s nomination last time were former MP and president of Sylhet district Awami League Alhaj Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury. After Anwaruzzaman was elected mayor of Sylhet City, Shafiq Chowdhury is now advancing in the party candidacy fight for this seat.

Former Jatiya Party MP Selim Uddin is contesting in Sylhet-6 seat among the UK expatriates.

Moulvibazar-3 Sadar Rajnagar parliamentary seat candidate for BNP’s nomination is advisor to BNP chairperson, party’s three-time ministerial secretary for international affairs Mahidur Rahman and Nashir Ahmed Shahin, president of the United Kingdom Secha Sebok dol.

The General Secretary of United Kingdom Awami League Syed Shazidur Rahman Faruq, General Secretary of United Kingdom BNP Kaysor M Ahmed, United Kingdom BNP leader Advocate Tahir Raihan Chowdhury are seeking nomination from their respective seats in Sunamganj. BNP leader Solicitor Ekram Majumdar wants BNP nomination from a seat in Comilla.

Former Member of Parliament of Habiganj-1 (Nabiganj-Bahubal) Constituency from Jatiya Party MA Munim Chowdhury Babu, Ex-MP of Sylhet-5 (Jakiganj-Kanaighat) Constituency and Whip of Jatiya Party Selim Uddin also lived in UK for a long time. Former BNP MP of Habiganj-1 Constituency Sheikh Sujat Mia was also an expatriate in UK for a long time.
