Thousands of people took to the streets of London on Saturday for the third week in a row to call for an end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Ignoring the bad weather on Saturday, the people of different communities including Bangladeshis continued to gather in this protest with flags and protestors in various festoons.

While Britain’s major political parties are publicly or tactically supporting Israel on this issue, this big showdown, like the one every Saturday in Britain’s major cities, including central London, is sending a different message. Britain’s common people are joining the protest agenda across the board. The Metropolitan Police said large crowds were expected around Whitehall, Westminster and Waterloo Bridge. More than a thousand policemen have been deployed.

Millions of British people have already signed two petitions before the British Parliament, demanding that the British government remain neutral by not supporting Israel and give shelter to Palestinian refugees in Britain. Britain’s Labor Party has sparked anger and frustration within the party after Keir Starmer, the leader of Britain’ labour party party, initially backed Israel on the issue. Several councilors of the party have already announced their resignation from the party.

Labour’s top leader is under increasing pressure within the party to change his stance on the Israel-Gaza war.

The pressure has increased within the party following moves by London mayors Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham and Scottish Labor leader Anas Sarwar.
