November 13, 2023
The much discussed and controversial Home Secretary has been dismissed by the British Prime Minister. The Indian-origin home secretary has created many controversies throughout her tenure on immigration issues, including the latest Palestine issue. Her name ranks high on the list of most controversial home secretaries in British history. She was asked to leave the job this morning by Rishi Sunak. This is the second time Ms Braverman has lost her position as Home Secretary - after resigning from Liz Truss's government due to violating departmental regulations. Latest political updates: Braverman is sacked again - as the reshuffle takes place today Mr Sunak reappoints her less than a week after he took office as Prime Minister. In a statement posted on the Conservative Party's social media channels, the Conservative Party said Mr Sunak's reshuffle today "strengthens his team in government to make long-term decisions for a better future". Last week, Ms Barverman wrote an article accusing police of "playing favorites" as she criticized the Metropolitan Police's handling of the controversial Armistice Day pro-Palestinian march. The Prime Minister is under pressure to act after Ms Braverman was accused of undermining the independence of the police – and public trust in them. Critics, both from opposition parties and Conservative MPs, called Ms Braverman's comments "insulting" and "inflammatory". Over the weekend, far-right protesters clashed with police in Westminster. Elsewhere, pro-Palestinian rallies also ended in arrests. Speaking to Sky News this morning, Armed Forces Minister James Heappey became the latest member of the Government to distance himself from Ms Braverman's comments - along with Defense Secretary Grant Shapps and Prime Minister Jeremy Hunt. But the move will anger some in the party. Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns said on X: "I support Suella Braverman. Sacked for speaking the truth. Bad call by Rishi caving in to the left!" David Cameron is being appointed as the new foreign secretary. Meanwhile, James Cleverly has replaced Suella Braverman as Home Secretary after she was sacked by Rishi Sunak as part of a major Cabinet reshuffle.
