Bangladesh election schedule announced: Awami League's joy, BNP's rejection

November 16, 2023
The Election Commission has announced the schedule of the upcoming 12th National Parliament Elections in Bangladesh. Election polling will be held on January 7 next year. After announcing the schedule on Wednesday (November 15) evening, BNP rejected it. At the same time, the party demanded to organize the next elections under the caretaker government. In the evening, BNP Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi informed about the party's position in a virtual press conference.
Rizvi said, "Ignoring the expectations of the entire Bangladesh, public opinion and international community's appeal, the electoral commission of 'Nishirat's government has announced the schedule of one-sided elections. We reject with utter disgust the schedule announced by the spineless and biased Election Commission to take away democracy and people's right to vote through yet another farce election on Sheikh Hasina's orders. People do not accept this so-called Schedule-Rang of one-sided elections creating a frightening war-time situation in the country. There will be no election on the soil of Bangladesh in this blueprint election schedule."
Meanwhile, the Awami League welcomed the election schedule announcement. Since the announcement of the schedule, various sub-organizations of the party have been holding joyous processions across the country. General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the party's response at a press conference after the election schedule was announced at the Awami League President's political office in Dhanmondi on Wednesday (November 15) evening.
He said, 'Awami League has led democracy in this country. Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina fought for democracy for 43 years. Today is a very happy day. The date for the 12th National Assembly elections has been announced on January 7. We welcome the schedule announced by the Election Commission on behalf of the Awami League.'
Also, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Jatiya Party chief sponsor Roshan Ershad welcomed this schedule for upcoming elections.
