Britain's spouse visa, many couples afraid of breaking up family in new income threshold

December 10, 2023
From 2024, the applicant must show a minimum income of £38,700 for a spouse from outside the UK, including Bangladesh. The lawyers of the Bangladeshi community see the government's decision to more than double the number of 18,600, which is in force at present, as a threat to the family life of the citizens and in conflict with the international human rights law. People from various professions of the community feel that the personal and family life of thousands of people including Bangladeshis in the immigrant community will be disturbed due to these inhumane conditions. If this income threshold is only in the field of husband or wife, if the couple has two children, the minimum life limit condition can reach about fifty thousand pounds. Many who have previously married outside Britain, including Bangladesh, but have not been able to apply to bring a spouse, are in dire straits. Due to the new conditions, they are in the swing of uncertainty whether they will be able to come to Britain and have a family together. Community leader Nazim Ahmad Chowdhury said, basically those who grew up from different countries including Bangladesh tend to marry in their respective countries. Those who grow up from other countries come to Britain, because they do not have the opportunity to study in Britain, because they do not have a good job to earn 38,000 pounds, almost in the field. Again, British born and raised girls are reluctant in most areas to marry foreign born and raised brides.Due to the new law, many will have to live alone, which is absolutely inhumane. Mohammad Islam, a councilor of London's Croydon Council & well- known community leader said that, the salary of a new doctor as a GP in this country is twenty-four twenty-five thousand pounds a year. These inhumane conditions are a violation of human rights amid the rising cost of living across the country. If this law is challenged in the court, the court will understand the reality of the matter. In the run-up to the election, the Conservative government is throwing in these new terms in hopes of retaining the white vote bank. Well-known barrister Iqbal Hossain and barrister Shuvagata Dey told this reporter on Sunday, even for many who were born and raised in Britain, it is impossible to meet the condition of this income threshold. Determining one's life partner with conditions is inhumane. We hope the matter will be reviewed.
