A “tough” immigration rule in the EU permits the deportation of migrants in 12 hours

France has removed a “radical” imam who made “unacceptable” remarks regarding the national flag using strict new immigration restrictions. In a video that went viral on the internet earlier this week, Imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi seems to refer to the French flag as “satanic”.

Gérald Darmanin, the interior minister of the nation, has now claimed that immigration reforms have made Mr. Mahjoubi’s deportation extremely quick. Mr. Mahjoubi, a native of Tunisia who has spent the last 38 years living in France, served as an imam at the Ettaouba mosque in the small southern French town of Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

A video footage of him labelling a “tricolour flag” “satanic” and declaring that it had “no value with Allah” led to his detention.

Mr. Darmanin wrote on X on Thursday, requesting that Mahjoub Mahjoubi be given an order of expulsion.

He continued by applauding the strict new immigration regulations that facilitate France’s deportation of foreign nationals.

“Instructions were given to issue a ministerial expulsion order against this radical ‘imam’ who made unacceptable remarks and he was the subject of a home visit and an arrest,” wrote Mr Darmanin.

He added: “Without the immigration law, this would not have been possible. Firmness is the rule.” Mr Mahjoubi did not refer to a specific flag but people who commented on the video assumed he meant the French flag.”

He then acknowledged that it was a “slip of the tongue” and apologized for the remarks. “The radical ‘Imam’ Mahjoub Mahjoubi has just been expelled from the national territory, less than 12 hours after his arrest,” Mr. Darmanin subsequently stated.

“This is the demonstration that the Immigration law, without which such a rapid expulsion would not have been possible, makes France stronger. We won’t let anything go.”
