2 held with 40 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

The Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and the National Security Intelligence (NSI) have arrested two persons, including the driver of the private airline Novoair, along with 40 pieces of gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The arrested are the driver of Novoair Md. Helal (51). His village home is Charkaga village of Basurhat police station of Noakhali district. Receiver Kamal Hossain (29). His village home is in Dakshin Bogula village of Haimchar police station in Chandpur district. Airport Armed Police Battalion Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque confirmed this to the media on Saturday afternoon.

At this time, he told the media that APBN intelligence members have been working to prevent gold smuggling at Shahjalal International Airport for a long time. In that continuation, the driver of private airlines Novoair Md. Helal was kept under surveillance by them. Helal came to duty today like any other day. Then exit through the arrival gate of the domestic terminal of the airport.

Ziaul Haque also said that Helal was then seen getting into the CNG with an accomplice from the driveway of the domestic terminal. At that time, in front of the Bangabandhu mural at the airport, APBN intelligence personnel intercepted CNG and brought him to the APBN office. After interrogation, 40 gold bars wrapped in black scotch tape were found inside the shoulder bag of receiver Kamal Hussain. Its weight is about 4 kg 640 grams and the market value is about 5 crore taka.

Detainee Kamal Hossain said that Novoair driver Helal gave him this gold. He was supposed to get 10,000 taka if he could deliver these golds to the specified destination. But he was arrested before that. Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque said that legal action is being taken against the accused at the airport police station.
