The cost of applying for a green card or work visa has increased.
According to reports, filing fees provide 96% of the income for US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and during the epidemic, both revenue and filings decreased.
This week saw an increase in prices for the first time since 2016. The registration price increased from $10 to $215, and the cost of an H-1B visa petition increased from $320 to $780. A new $600 programme fee for asylum seekers is also there.
Employers, according to immigration attorney Emily Neumann in Houston, shoulder the majority of this. She also claims that this could make it more difficult to hire new employees.
Neumann says the agency is inefficient, processing times are too long, and there's nothing in this new fee schedule that requires them to do better.
