On April 16, the UAE saw the most rainfall in its modern history, leaving locals to deal with flooded houses and hope for safety. After intense rains on Tuesday, a lot of homes, townhouse communities, and skyscrapers in Sharjah and Dubai are without electricity.
Since 3 a.m. Wednesday, several apartment buildings in Sharjah's Al Majaz Area have been without power and internet owing to flooding that started on Tuesday afternoon and caused rainwater to enter elevators.
“There has been no power in our building since 3am. Therefore, we also don’t have internet at the moment. Thankfully, we managed to fill a bucket after the electricity went off because now there is no water supply,” said Alomgir Torofdar, a Bangladeshi migrant in Dubai City.
He continued, "We can't go anywhere because the entire area is flooded. Previously, we used to go to malls or drive around in our cars if there was a power failure in our buildings. But even that is out of the question now."
