After trying to unlock the plane's doors in midair, an inebriated easyJet passenger was taken into custody by Spanish authorities. After making trouble while on board, the British tourist got into a fight with other passengers and crew, endangering the safety of the flight.
An Informations report stated that the nameless 28-year-old British national had boarded an easyJet flight from London Gatwick (LGW) to Alicante (ALC).As per the es report, the passenger's level of inebriation escalated during the flight, even though he was already inebriated when he boarded the aircraft in London. Before attacking them physically, he apparently started making mockery of and insulting other passengers. The cabin crew then made an attempt to step in, but they too were attacked.
It is reported that the passenger got so inebriated during this altercation that he tried to open a door to exit the aircraft, failing to realize the flight was still in the air. There are reports stating that the man also tried to "enter the cabin," which is probably a reference to the cockpit and would be an additional significant charge for him to face. Before it landed in Alicante, the person was eventually immobilized by other passengers and the crew.
Upon arriving in Alicante, the man was quickly taken into custody by the police, ruining his hopes of enjoying a bright summer vacation. In order to give authorities time to meet the aircraft when it arrived, the flight crew alerted the Alicante control tower to the presence of an intoxicated passenger.
Alicante Airport has been a hotbed for passenger problems, according to the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency. With 184 incidents in 2023, it is second only to Tenerife (TFS), which registered 189. The organization also stated that inebriated British tourists are mostly to blame for the incidents.
