In the week following his arrival in Birmingham, a father of two passed away while reading the Quran. Hassan Khebbeiz fled the Syrian turmoil for the UK as a laborer hoping for a better life after losing his parents when he was a little child.

He and his spouse and their two kids were reportedly staying in temporary housing off of Hagley Road when he arrived earlier this month. It was reported last week that the 59-year-old passed away unexpectedly while reading the Quran.

His wife and kids are currently adjusting to their new life in the UK by themselves, while his brother and four sisters are still in Syria. A JustGiving campaign has been started to cover the funeral expenses of a father of two Syrian refugees who apparently passed away within a week.

As part of a free Muslim funeral program, Oldbury-based Iqbal & Sons Bereavement Service has offered to pay for Hassan's funeral expenses. An petition has been started to collect £3,700 to pay for his burial space at Sutton New Hall Cemetery.

"He arrived in August, and his wife found him slumped on a desk with the Quran in his hands just a week later," the firm stated. It's quite depressing."

As of Monday, August 19, at 2:45 p.m., the appeal had raised £290. "Your contribution, no matter how small, will help give Hassan the dignified sendoff that every soul deserves," it stated. Our combined compassion can be the difference in these situations.

"Let's unite to assist Hassan's bereaved family and pay tribute to his memory in the most meaningful way possible.
