The Bangladeshi community in Britain is lacking behind in many ways than other ethnic minority communities in terms of lack of unity. In Britain, most of the Bangladeshi regional and local-based, professional, and social organizations are divided. There is a lack of senior leaders who can play a role in unity. There is a lack of exemplary individuals who can serve as role models in the community.
Starting from the mosque committees, social organizations are playing a role in creating a kind of competition for chair and leadership in all fields. Due to all these negative practices, the participation of British Bangladeshi youth in mainstream politics is absolutely less compared to the Indian and Pakistani communities in Britain. The Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and Indian communities in Britain started their journey at the same time. After a hundred years four generations in Britain, we need to review the reasons why our participation in the mainstream is low. We should identify the reasons and work together unitedly.
There is no effort to encourage and enliven our youth. We have only four MPs in the British Parliament. This number is not increasing. Unless our children are more involved in mainstream politics, British policy will not go far in addressing the voices, deprivations, and needs of British Bangladeshis.
We should support the new generation of British Bangladeshis in participating in mainstream politics.
