Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa Scheme 2024

April 06, 2024
According to corporations, the Algarve, a Portuguese municipality, has become a popular destination for digital nomads, particularly those from the US, UK, and Ireland. The top reasons given for this popularity are the easy access to a digital nomad visa and the relaxed lifestyle. The large turnout at roadshows promoting the Algarve as a great place for digital nomads is evidence of this trend. These roadshows have been open for visits throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as in the US cities of Atlanta, Austin, and Boston. Experts point out that different Portuguese cities and places attract different digital nomads, with some being more interested in a relaxed lifestyle, thus choosing to live in Algarve and others opting for more urban destinations such as Lisbon and Porto.

Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa Scheme Among Most Convenient

According to the organisers of the ‘Living in Portugal’ and ‘Moving to Portugal’ shows in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively, an increased rate of interest in the Portugal Digital Nomad Visa has been noticed. Hippisley also told the Portugal Resident that the Algarve is the most popular destination for UK and Irish buyers, with half (49.9 per cent) of visitors inquiring about prices or property info for this region. Compared to October 2023, such inquiries have been up by 47.7 per cent. On the other hand, 20 per cent of all people attending similar events in three American cities between February 22 and March 2, 2024, showed interest in the digital nomad visa.

Digital Nomads Flocking to Algarve Due to Crowded Lisbon & Porto

As more people grow an appreciation for the Algarve municipality due to its nice weather, lovely community and calm lifestyle, Lisbon and Porto are losing their digital nomads. The housing crisis in these destinations is one of the reasons why digital nomads are growing fonder of the Algarve. Both, Antonio Guerreiro, Director of Projects and Strategic Partnerships at Algarve Evolutions and Gonçalo Hall, president of the Digital Nomad Association Portugal and CEO of NomadX, pointed out that municipalities in Portugal should follow Albufeira’s example when it comes to hosting digital nomads. The experts explained that creating working spaces for digital can be economical but very efficient. All that is needed is providing a space convenient for computers and a stable internet connection.
