Protests demand Rupa Haque's resignation; Bangladesh's politics of antagonism in Britain
  • After Rupa Haque raised the issue of the report being inaccurate in Parliament, it was adjourned for review.

A protest rally was held in London on Wednesday to protest the All Party Parliament report on the persecution of minorities and human rights violations in Bangladesh and the statement made by MP Rupa Haque in the British Parliament.

Although the protesters demanding Rupa's resignation is written as "We are Bangladeshis" in the statement and campaign of the organizers, Awami League activists and supporters and like-minded people have been seen in this program.

On the other hand, another group is now demanding the resignation of Tulip Siddique, a member of parliament, from her position as an MP, for the past few days. This mudslinging is fueling the antipathy, hatred, and divisive politics of Bangladesh in the British Bangladeshi community, as many, including veteran UK-based journalist Reza Ahmed Faysol Chowdhury Shoeb, have commented.

The press release sent by the organizers of the action demanding Rupa Haque's resignation said, "Rupa Haque, the Bangladeshi-origin MP for Ealing and Acton, strongly criticized the APPG report on Bangladesh in a parliamentary point of order on January 16. She said it was part of a conspiracy against the interim government of Bangladesh.

After Rupa Haque raised the issue of the report being inaccurate in Parliament, it was adjourned for review. But the reality is that a large number of people have been attacked by the information published in the APPG report. We have long observed with deep concern that Rupa Haque has maintained good relations with the Islamic camp opposing the Liberation War of Bangladesh and has been assisting the opposition forces of the Awami League in various ways on various issues, the latest example of which was meeting with Dr. Shafiqur in a meeting in the British Parliament.

The persecuted minority communities of Bangladesh were hoping for justice from the international community. The UK has always stood for humanity, for the oppressed people. But the postponement of the APPG report has blocked that possibility. Rupa Haque has rather acted inhumanely towards the persecuted minorities of Bangladesh by taking a biased stance towards the anti-humanity Islamic terrorist group. We demand the withdrawal of this biased statement by Rupa Haque and her resignation."Amrit Das, Abhishek Shekhar Jiku, Robin Das, Asima De, Sujoy Swaroop Shyam Sujit Das, Nazrul Islam Nishit, and Neelkanth spoke on behalf of the organizing committee at the meeting.

This reporter contacted Rupa Haque by sending an e-mail to know about Rupa Haque's comment on this matter, but she did not respond until the time of writing this news.
