The UK’s public EV charge points have surpassed 75,000, with high-powered chargers leading the expansion.

According to Zapmap, the total reached 75,675 by the end of February, marking a 32% rise from 57,290 a year ago.

Ultra-rapid chargers, delivering 150kW+ speeds, have experienced the most significant growth, increasing by 74% year-on-year.

Ionity installed the milestone 75,000th charger at the Village Hotel in Bristol, adding eight ultra-rapid and four rapid devices.

While ultra-rapid chargers are driving record growth, expansion is also strong across residential on-street charge points and destination chargers at hotels and leisure centers.

Having 75,000 public charge points available, across the different charging use cases, is a significant milestone for the UK EV market. An extensive network of public charging, especially high visibility hubs, helps drive confidence for the next wave of drivers who will be making the switch to electric over the next few years.” -Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-founder Zapmap

Zapmap predicts this momentum will continue, provided the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate remains in place.

The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure fund is set to deploy thousands of on-street chargers in the latter half of 2025, supported by major private investment.

With a focus on reliability and streamlined payments, the charging network is rapidly scaling to support the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.
