Carrie Johnson Hospitalised with Dehydration After Birth of Fourth Child

Carrie Johnson, the third wife of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has revealed a recent hospitalisation for severe dehydration, issuing a crucial warning to other breastfeeding mothers as the UK braces for another heatwave. Mrs. Johnson, who recently welcomed her fourth child with Boris Johnson, a daughter named Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson, born on May 21, 2025, shared details of her ordeal from her hospital bed via Instagram.

"Being hospitalised for two nights for severe dehydration was not on my postpartum bingo card," she wrote, accompanying a photo of herself and her newborn. Her post served as a timely reminder: "Breastfeeding mums make sure you eat and drink enough in this heat. Especially if your babe is clusterfeeding."

This latest health scare follows a "brutal" week for Mrs. Johnson, who also battled mastitis while her new baby struggled with reflux. "This week has honestly been brutal," she candidly shared in a follow-up post. "Mastitis (me), Reflux (her), Dehydration (me). What a pair we are!" She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and advice received, particularly regarding reflux, which made her feel "way less alone." She concluded by thanking the "amazing NHS."

Carrie Johnson, born Carrie Symonds, married Boris Johnson in May 2021, making her his third wife. Their marriage has brought four children into the family: Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson (born April 2020), Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson (born December 2021), Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson (born July 2023), and most recently, Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson (born May 2025).

Boris Johnson, a father known for his extensive family, now has nine known children from various relationships. Prior to his marriage to Carrie, he had four children with his second wife, Marina Wheeler: Lara Lettice, Milo Arthur, Cassia Peaches, and Theodore Apollo. He also has a daughter, Stephanie Macintyre, from an affair with Helen Macintyre. The exact number of his offspring has sometimes been a subject of public speculation, but his known children now total nine.

As the UK anticipates its second heatwave of the year, with temperatures set to exceed 30°C in some areas, health authorities are issuing alerts for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and new mothers. Carrie Johnson's personal experience serves as a poignant reminder of the increased risks faced by new mothers during periods of high temperatures, particularly when navigating the demands of breastfeeding and postpartum recovery. Mrs. Johnson has consistently used her social media platform to raise awareness about maternal health, advocating for greater understanding and support for new mothers.
