Santander will close seven retail banking branches in the UK this week, including locations in Brixton and Edgware Road, London.

The Brixton Road branch shut on 11 August, while the Edgware Road branch is set to close today, Tuesday, 12 August. Another branch in Surrey Quays is scheduled to close permanently on 10 November.

These closures are part of a restructuring plan announced in March to shut 95 of Santander’s 444 UK branches. So far, 69 have already closed, with 18 more set to shut by the end of the year, though dates for those have yet to be confirmed.

This week, the bank will also remove in-person counter services at branches in Camberley, Orpington, and Rotherham. Customers at these locations will no longer be able to deposit or withdraw coins or large amounts of cash over the counter, and will need to use in-branch ATMs for withdrawals instead.

The changes come amid a difficult period for UK high streets, with major retailers like Poundland, GAME, and New Look also set to close hundreds of physical stores this August.

  • 11 August: Formby (Merseyside), Sidcup (Kent)

  • 13 August: Willerby (North Humberside), Holywell (Clwyd)

  • 14 August: Plympton (Devon)

  • 10 November: Surrey Quays (London)
