Foreigners are more than twice as likely to be detained as British natives, with Albanians leading the UK in arrests per population.
According to recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Home Office, 209.8 arrests have been made for every 1,000 citizens of the eastern European nation in the United Kingdom.
Comparatively, 12 out of 1000 Britons have been placed under arrest. These numbers have been modified for the corresponding populations.
Every police force in England and Wales has provided data for the study, which is the first of its sort conducted by the Centre for Migration Control.
Following Albanians in the league table, were Afghans, Iraqis, and Algerians, at 107, 83, and 73 per 1,000, respectively.
In total, there were 48 nationalities with a higher arrest rate per 1,000 people than British suspects.
According to the figures, released under freedom of information (FOI) laws, foreign nationals were arrested at twice the rate of British natives, accounting for 131,000 of the arrests from January to October 2024.
While foreigners make up nine per cent of the population, they accounted for 16.1 per cent of the total number of arrests.
Senior Conservative MPs have been pushing for the release of data that would allow league tables of the crime rates of nations’ migrants to be compiled. It is a practice already done in Denmark and some states in the US.
Robert Jenrick, the Shadow Justice Secretary, said such data would allow the Home Office to tighten visa and deportation policies for nationalities linked to higher crime rates.
Jenrick, who first proposed the legal change, said: “There is not a single good reason why the Ministry of Justice shouldn’t publish this in full, completely transparently, on a regular basis.”
Last month, it was revealed that Albanian people smugglers are offering migrants comprehensive “package deals” to Britain through TikTok advertisements, including accommodation and employment upon arrival.
The deals, starting from £2,500, promise migrants housing and cash-in-hand work, with payment required only upon reaching Dover.
It marks the first time traffickers have publicly marketed such all-inclusive packages to potential migrants.
A Home Office spokesman said: “These despicable people-smuggling gangs are exploiting vulnerable people by peddling lies on social media and placing them in horrendous conditions, working for next to nothing.”
