Bangladesh Women secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over Pakistan Women today, kicking off their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign in style.
The victory was set up by a disciplined bowling performance that saw Pakistan bundled out for a mere 129 runs in 38.3 overs. Pace bowler Marufa Akter (2/31) was instrumental, claiming two wickets in the first over to rock Pakistan's top order. Spinner Shorna Akter provided excellent support, cleaning up the tail to finish with figures of 3/5. Marufa Akter was later named Player of the Match for her impactful opening spell.
In the chase, despite a shaky start at 23/2, debutant opener Rubya Haider anchored the innings with a mature, unbeaten knock of 54 (77 balls). Her crucial partnership with captain Nigar Sultana (23) stabilized the innings before she and Sobhana Mostary (24*) comfortably guided Bangladesh to the target in 31.1 overs. The convincing win marks a fantastic start for Bangladesh in the marquee tournament.
