A joint investigation is continuing into the tragic death of Madia Kauser, the 32-year-old mother-of-two who died after being hit by a falling tree branch in Witton Park. Her husband, Wasim Khan, has described her as the "most beautiful woman in the world," revealing that he is "completely lost" without her. The devastating incident, which occurred on August 11, is made all the more poignant by reports that Mrs. Kauser’s final act was to push her young daughter to safety.
The tragedy unfolded as the family was walking home from a day out. According to her family, as a large branch from a beech tree suddenly fell, Mrs. Kauser bravely pushed her five-year-old daughter out of harm's way, taking the full force of the impact herself. Her daughter was unharmed, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, Mrs. Kauser was pronounced dead at the scene.
Since the incident, Blackburn with Darwen Council, which manages the park, has confirmed it has felled the tree and conducted precautionary safety inspections across the park. A file is being prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest into her death.
Detective Inspector Iain Czapowski of Lancashire Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, stating that police are particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident happen. The police are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
In a heartbreaking tribute, Wasim Khan spoke of his wife's selflessness and devotion. "She did everything she could for anyone and would bring smiles whenever she entered the room," he said. He described her as his "comfort, my partner in life and the love of my life," adding that he feels "completely lost without her."
