A desi man from Tower Hamlets has been sentenced to prison for his role in an audacious attempt to smuggle a significant haul of drugs and mobile phones into a high-security prison in Suffolk, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.
Alinur Rahman, 43, of Code Street in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, received a 12-month jail sentence after he was caught at the perimeter of HMP Highpoint in Stradishall, near Newmarket. His conviction stems from an incident that occurred on April 26, 2023, when quick-thinking prison staff noticed Rahman and another man acting suspiciously in bushes near the fence and alerted police.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found and detained Rahman. In his possession was a carrier bag containing a cache of contraband, including tightly wrapped tobacco, a quantity of cannabis, four iPhones, chargers, and SIM cards. Both men were taken into police custody and later bailed, before being formally charged on December 20, 2023.
Rahman pleaded guilty at a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on May 24, 2024, to multiple offenses: attempting to throw a prohibited 'List A' article (cannabis) and prohibited 'List B' articles (mobile phones and charging cables) into a prison.
This 12-month sentence will be served consecutively to a separate 36-month prison term Rahman is already serving. That sentence was handed down at Snaresbrook Crown Court on April 11, 2025, for unrelated matters.
Rahman's co-defendant in the HMP Highpoint case received a significantly longer sentence. He was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on March 25, 2025, to four years and nine months in prison for his part in the foiled smuggling operation.
