The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has issued new, strict guidelines for distributing iftar meals during Ramadan, effectively banning all advertising and promotional activities at the holy sites in Mecca and Medina. The procedural guide is designed to maintain the sanctity of the mosques by ensuring the act of charity remains pure and free from commercial interests.

The new regulations require all individuals and organizations seeking to provide meals to be legally registered and to submit a detailed distribution plan that meets both health and Shariah standards. Once a permit is granted, the holder must adhere to specific, designated distribution areas and maintain impeccable public hygiene. A core tenet of the new rules is the strict prohibition on any branding, logos, or promotional materials on meal packaging or during distribution.

To enforce these rules, the authority has established a clear system of escalating penalties. A first offense will result in a written warning, while repeated violations will lead to the immediate revocation of the permit and disqualification from all meal distribution for the rest of Ramadan. These measures are part of a broader effort by the Kingdom to enhance the spiritual experience for millions of pilgrims, with over 60 million worshippers having already visited the Two Holy Mosques during Muharram. Preparations for the upcoming Hajj season also include the expansion of walkways and the addition of 60,000 new prayer spots.
