Two pedestrians have died and four people remain hospitalised with serious injuries following a devastating multi-vehicle collision along White Rose Way in Doncaster, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed. The incident took place at approximately 11:00 BST on Sunday, 13 September 2026, when a black Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck travelling along the major arterial corridor struck four pedestrians. The truck subsequently crossed into the opposing carriageway, colliding with a black Audi and a silver BMW. Despite emergency intervention by paramedics and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, two members of the pedestrian group were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision occurred on the busy stretch connecting Carriage Drive with the Middle Bank Roundabout. South Yorkshire Police established that the Mitsubishi pick-up truck was travelling along the carriageway before it struck the group of four pedestrians who were walking alongside the route. Following the initial impact, the vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes and collided heavily with the oncoming Audi and BMW.
Emergency trauma teams arrived within minutes, but the injuries sustained by two of the pedestrians proved fatal before they could be transported to hospital. Four other individuals involved in the incident were conveyed to regional medical facilities with serious trauma. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that medical staff have classified their conditions as stable and non-life-threatening.
Officers at the scene arrested the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, in connection with the catastrophic collision. The motorist was taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving whilst unfit.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the suspect has since been released on police bail while forensic examinations proceed. Specialists from the force's collision reconstruction unit spent hours mapping the roadway, analysing vehicle trajectories, tyre marks, and roadside infrastructure between Carriage Drive and Middle Bank Roundabout to determine the precise circumstances leading up to the disaster.
The Serious Collisions Investigation Unit has opened an inquiry into the mechanical condition of the vehicles, sightline visibility, and driver conduct. Detectives are focusing on tracing the movements of the black Mitsubishi L200 in the minutes immediately prior to the incident.
Daily Dazzling Dawn learned that officers are making an urgent public appeal for witnesses who were travelling in the area around 11:00 BST on Sunday to come forward. Investigators are asking any motorists with dashcam footage, or residents with commercial CCTV overlooking White Rose Way, to contact South Yorkshire Police via 101 or through their online reporting portal.
