A 50-year-old man has been charged more than two years after a devastating road crash in South Yorkshire that claimed the lives of six people.
Christopher Cockell has been charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving following the collision on the A61 near Mapplewell, Barnsley, in July 2024.
Four of those who died were members of the same family. They were Shane Roller, 33, his partner Shannen Morgan, 30, and their two daughters, Rubie and Lillie Morgan-Roller, aged nine and four.
The tragedy also left the couple’s third daughter orphaned, as she was not travelling in the family’s Ford Focus at the time of the crash.
The other two victims were Christopher Barton, 56, and his wife Janine Barton, 48, who were travelling together on a BMW S 100 XR motorcycle when the collision occurred.
West Yorkshire Police said Cockell, who is from Gresford Close in Woolley Grange, is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 28 October.
