A third of the UK's babies are born to foreign-born mothers in the UK. In the top ten of this list, Bangladeshis are in the sixth place in the two lists of mothers and fathers of newborns.
In 2022, 183,309 babies were born to non-native mothers in Britain, according to the latest figures from the country's Office for National Statistics (ONS). In this list, India has overtaken Afghanistan and is now at the top of all. Pakistan and Romania are next.
According to new data from the Office for National Statistics, the number of births to mothers born outside Britain was 179,726 in 2021. In 2022, it increased to 183309 people.
In contrast, the number of UK-born women giving birth in England and Wales fell to 42,109 in 2022, up from 44,505 in 2021.
Two-thirds of newborns (66.5 per cent) born in London last year had one or both parents born outside the UK, ONS figures show.
Commenting on this matter, British Bangladeshi community leader Mowlana Najmul Haque told on Sunday that the Bangladeshi population in Britain is much smaller than that of Indians and Pakistanis. Still, the main reason why Bangladeshis are ahead in the list of marriage and child birth is social and religious values.
