A 21-year-old Bangladeshi daughter-in-law was murdered by her mother-in-law in East London's Bangladeshi-populated Limehouse area. The deceased daughter-in-law was the mother of a two-year-old child. Community leader and former president of the UK Bangla Press Club, KM Abu Taher Chowdhury, confirmed this information to the Daily Dazzling Dawn on Friday night.
He quoted his son, Tower Hamlets Councillor Abu Talha Chowdhury, as saying that the deceased daughter-in-law came to Britain from Bangladesh only ten days ago. The victim's husband was at work at the time of the incident. The daughter-in-law died on the spot due to knife wounds. The family is from Sylhet.
However, he could not confirm the identity of the victim or the killer.
The Metropolitan Police was called to Ratcliffe Lane, Limehouse, at about 14:30 BST on Thursday to report reports of an unresponsive female.
Despite the efforts of medic, she died at the scene. Her next of kin has been told.
The suspect is being treated in the hospital and remains in a non-life-threatening condition, the force added.
According to the sources, the police recovered the body of a 21-year-old woman from flat number 206 of a residential building called John Skar House in the Limehouse area. However, the police arrested the woman under treatment in the hospital.
A spokesman for the London Metropolitan Police said the body has been sent for a post-mortem. However, the police have not revealed the identity of the victim yet.
A source among local residents said on Friday that at least five members of a Bangladeshi family will live in a flat.
The murder took place due to a family dispute between two women.
Det Ch Sup James Conway, the local policing lead for Tower Hamlets and Hackney, said: "My thoughts are with the family of this lady at this exceptionally difficult time.
"This appears to be a tragic set of circumstances, and we are working closely with the Specialist Crime Command to understand exactly what occurred and to piece together the events that have led to this devastating outcome."
He added that officers would remain close to the scene to provide reassurance to the community.
Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact the force at 101.
