New Immigration Unit with 1,000 Staff to Speed Up Asylum Hotel Clearance

July 09, 2024
Keir Starmer's Labour Party, in its election manifesto, has pledged to take measures to halt the boats and put an end to the record-breaking illegal immigration into the UK.

In order to hasten the expulsion of undocumented immigrants and empty out "asylum hotels," labor intends to hire an extra 1,000 employees.

The Labour Party lead by Keir Starmer promised in its election campaign to take action to stop the boats and stop the unprecedented amount of illegal immigration into the UK.

The party's manifesto indicates that it will terminate the faltering Rwanda scheme - a move reportedly already in progress over the weekend - and utilise the saved funds to establish a 1,000-strong immigration task force, reports the Express.

The government's new Border Security Command was unveiled on Sunday evening, with recruitment underway for a leader for the organisation. In its manifesto, Labour stated: "Labour will set up a new returns and enforcement unit, with an additional 1,000 staff, to fast-track removals to safe countries for people who do not have the right to stay here."

"We will negotiate additional returns arrangements to speed up returns and increase the number of safe countries that failed asylum seekers can swiftly be sent back to. And we will also act upstream, working with international partners to address the humanitarian crises which lead people to flee their homes, and to strengthen support for refugees in their home region."

"Labour will turn the page and restore order to the asylum system so that it operates swiftly, firmly, and fairly; and the rules are properly enforced. We will hire additional caseworkers to clear the Conservatives' backlog and end asylum hotels, saving the taxpayer billions of pounds."

The Border Security Commander, who will report directly to the Home Secretary, is set to provide strategic direction across agencies. This role will consolidate the efforts of the National Crime Agency, intelligence agencies, police, Immigration Enforcement and Border Force, with the aim of enhancing border protection and targeting smuggling gangs facilitating small boat crossings.
