The Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Muhammad Yunus thanked the country's President Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for pardoning 57 Bangladeshis convicted in the Federal Court of the United Arab Emirates.
He expressed his gratitude in a letter sent to the President of the Emirates on Tuesday (September 3).
Incidentally, a court of the country sentenced 57 Bangladeshis to various terms of imprisonment for protesting in the United Arab Emirates in solidarity with the quota reform movement. Three of them were sentenced to life imprisonment, 53 to 10 years and the remaining one to 11 years.
Dr. in the letter. Muhammad Yunus said that 57 Bangladeshis who expressed solidarity with the recent student revolution have protested in several cities of the United Arab Emirates. I enjoy the opportunity to express my deep gratitude for your generous decision to pardon them. This act of forgiveness after our telephone conversation not only exemplifies compassionate leadership, but also serves as a vehicle to strengthen the enduring bond of brotherhood between our two countries.
He further said that your generous decision to cancel the sentence especially the families of those involved and the wider countrymen of Bangladesh, the citizens of our country in the United Arab Emirates are relieved. We are truly deeply touched by your compassion. We fully respect the laws of UAE. We are committed to brief and educate our citizens about the local laws and culture of their host countries prior to their departure from Bangladesh.
In the letter, the Chief Adviser said, I sincerely thank you for your kind decision. Which will further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between our nations. We look forward to strengthening our bilateral relations and working together for the mutual benefit of our peoples. I wish you good health, happiness, long life and continued peace, progress and prosperity for the brotherly people of UAE.
