The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom has dropped the indecent assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, the notorious former Hollywood mogul.

After considering all of the available evidence, the CPS said that "there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction" and that's why it had taken the decision.

For alleged offences from the summer of 1996, Weinstein was charged in 2022 with two counts of indecent assault against a lady in London.

The Metropolitan Police noted at the time that the accused victim is a woman who is currently in her 50s.

Chief of the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division Frank Ferguson stated that the CPS was required to regularly evaluate criminal cases and that they had "explained our decision to all parties".

"We will prosecute wherever our legal test is met, and we would always encourage any potential victims of sexual assault to come forward and report to police."
