According to French authorities, eight people lost their lives trying to cross the Channel from France to England over night.

After 1:00 local time, the boat encountered difficulties in the waters north of Boulogne-sur-mer, prompting the notification of rescue authorities.
As reported by the AFP news agency, "Several migrants lost their lives," according to the Pas-de-Calais prefecture.
The incident occurred more than a week after a boat carrying hundreds of migrants drowned off the coast of France, killing 12 people—six of them children and one pregnant woman.
This year's deadliest fatality in the Channel occurred on September 3.On Saturday, French marine officials announced that 200 individuals had been saved in a 24-hour span on Friday and Saturday.

People were rescued from four different boats by the French coast guard and other first responders: one boat had 61 people, another had 55, and two more had 48 and 36 individuals each.

Throughout the day, officials kept an eye on eighteen attempted crossings.

At 10:00 local time (09:00 BST), regional prefect Jacques Billant is scheduled to give a press conference.
