Akita dog bite in West Sussex left a six-year-old girl hospitalised for treatment.
The event occurred on Thursday between 4 and 4.30 p.m. in Strand Parade, the Boulevard, Durrington, Worthing.
A spokeswoman for Sussex police stated that a 53-year-old Worthing resident had been taken into custody on suspicion of having a dog that was dangerously out of control and causing harm.
He said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a child was bitten by a dog in Durrington. The six-year-old girl was walking with her grandmother when the incident occurred.
“She sustained a chest wound and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“The dog, identified as a Japanese akita, was seized by police. Its owner, a 53-year-old woman from Worthing, was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury.
“She has been released on bail until 4 January, pending further inquiries.”
