After using the accelerator instead of the brake, the best friend of the Bangladeshi student allegedly drove into him, killing him while he was standing outside his house.Just after midnight on Monday, Ismail Hossain, 25, was at his south-west Sydney house in Wiley Park when Nasir Uddin, 24, pulled into the driveway.
Uddin allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of reversing the Toyota Corolla. After being charged with careless driving resulting in death, he showed up in Parramatta Local Court on Monday afternoon and was given bail. The court heard that Mr. Hossain went to his friend's house late on Sunday night in order to return a work-related bicycle that he had borrowed. According to police records, the twenty-five-year-old proceeded to welcome the group of pals from Bangladesh who reside at the Cornelia Street residence. When Mr. Hossain went outside to park his red Toyota Camry in the front yard, it was around 11:30 a.m. Uddin allegedly pulled into the driveway and tried to park his Toyota Corolla while he made his way back towards the house.It's alleged during the manoeuvre Uddin drove his car into Mr Hossain.
'The momentum pushed [Mr Hossain] into the corner wall of the residence, pinning him, causing major head injury,' police's fact sheet alleges, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
'Police believe the accused accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.'
Police allege Uddin then reversed his car several metres following the collision.
Their friends rushed outside after they heard a loud crash where they found Mr Hossain lying on the ground and Uddin in the front yard.
Neighbours also rushed to their aid.
'We just heard a loud noise, like hitting a house, so we get outside and we saw someone else crying," a witness told Nine News.Emergency crews raced to the scene but were unable to revive Mr Hossain.
He and Uddin were both Bangladeshi international students who were understood to be long-time friends.A crime scene was established and examined by specialist police.
Police arrested Uddin and took him to hospital for mandatory testing before he was taken to Campsie police station, where he was charged with negligent driving occasioning death.
He appeared in Parramatta Bail Court today where he was granted bail on a $2000 surety.
He had to surrender his passport and report to police daily as part of his bail conditions.
Uddin will appear in Bankstown Local Court on October 15.
