Bangladesh has successfully repatriated 105 citizens stranded in war-torn Lebanon.

The group, seeking voluntary return, arrived on Thursday at 11:00 PM aboard Emirates Airlines flight EK-584, with the entire expense covered by the government, according to a press release issued Friday.

The repatriation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). Officials ensured a smooth return, underscoring the government’s ongoing efforts to assist citizens affected by the conflict.

Earlier in the week, 40 Bangladeshis were repatriated on December 3, followed by 64 on December 4. With this latest flight, the total number of returnees from Lebanon has reached 963 across 15 flights.

Upon their arrival, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and IOM welcomed the returnees. IOM provided each individual with Tk 5,000 in pocket money, along with food and basic medical support.

Government officials spoke with the returnees to understand their experiences during the conflict and offer further assistance. Sadly, one Bangladeshi has been reported killed in a bombing in Lebanon.

The government remains dedicated to bringing back all Bangladeshi expatriates willing to return amid the ongoing crisis. The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut continues its efforts to facilitate safe repatriations and ensure the security of those who choose to stay, the statement added.
