Effective in UK from December 17
The no visa fee for British passport holders and all foreign passport holders to travel to Bangladesh has been increased from £46 to £70 by government decision. When the news of this fee hike reached the Bangladeshi community in Britain on Friday afternoon, there was strong anger and reaction in the community. There are Hundreds of thousands Bangladeshis and British Bangladeshis living in Britain who have British citizenship and British passports. They need the no-visa-required stamp (NVR) for traveling to Bangladesh. Thousands of British Bangladeshis went to the country with their families during the December holidays. In such a situation, the news of the sudden increase in the no-visa fee created a reaction in the community.
Jahangir Hossain, a journalist from the Bangladeshi community in London, said to Daily Dazzling Dawn that the fascists are still in various important positions in the government. The fees for various services have been suddenly increased to create distance between the Bangladeshi expatriates and the interim government.
Monir Ahmed, a leader of the Bangladeshi Business Association in Britain and founder of JMG Cargo, said that before the fee increase, there was a need to consult the opinions of the expatriates and to keep some time in hand and campaign in advance.
The acting high commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission in London was contacted on Friday evening for his comment on this matter, but he could not be reached on the phone. Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that it is the government's decision. It has been increased for all countries. The High Commission has nothing to do here. Another official said to Daily Dazzling Dawn that the government has been increasing the fees since the 4th of December and said that it will be effective immediately. But we are still charging the old rate at the London High Commission. It will be effective in Britain from December 17. He also said that the fees for only these four services—no visa, citizenship renunciation, dual citizenship, and police clearance—have increased. The fees for all other services remain unchanged.
