Richard Bourne, a senior journalist and member of the executive committee of the Commonwealth Journalists Association, spoke as the chief guest, presided over by Dr. Azizul Ambia and hosted by Kamrul I. Russell, in the efforts of journalists at the local Altab Ali Park on Thursday evening, demanding the release of imprisoned journalists in Bangladesh. Commonwealth Journalist Association Vice President Syed Nahas Pasha, former BBC journalist Shamim Chowdhury, barrister Tania Amir, veteran freedom fighter Dewan Gous Sultan, veteran freedom fighter Khalil Kazi Abiy, senior journalist Urmi Mazhar, Md. Rezaul Karim Mridha, human rights activist Ahad Chowdhury, Sajidur Rahman, and Jamal Khan. Journalists Jewel Raj, Nazrul Islam Akib, Imdadun Khan, Mifatul Noor, and others. Speakers said that in Bangladesh journalists have been detained for several months with murder cases; bail is not being given. A case has been filed against about 160 journalists. Journalists are worried about it. The speakers said that even though Dr. Yunus promised, the false cases of the journalists were not withdrawn, but the torture continued. Therefore torture of journalists cannot be accepted at all. The government was requested to release them. The organizers said that the movement will continue if the journalists are not released.
