Dozens are feared dead after a passenger jet carrying 64 people collided midair with a military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.

Search and rescue teams are working in the river after the jet struck a Black Hawk helicopter while approaching Ronald Reagan Airport, causing it to plunge into the water.

American Airlines confirmed the flight from Wichita, Kansas, had 60 passengers and four crew members on board, while three soldiers were in the helicopter.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz stated there were fatalities, and CBS reported that 18 bodies had been recovered.

Footage from an observation camera at the Kennedy Center shows two sets of aircraft lights merging in a fireball.

President Trump, addressing the “terrible accident,” said, “May God bless their souls.” Posting on Truth Social, he claimed the crash “should have been prevented” and suggested the helicopter entered the plane’s path.
