A top tip from an energy enthusiast could save you a staggering £700. According to the astute people at Alan Boswell Group, a few easy tips could be the key to saving money this cold season. Appropriate insulation can reduce heating costs and save you between £630 and £730.

The experts from Alan Boswell Group shared their advice with devoted customers of British Gas, EDF, EON, Ovo, and Octopus: "On a budget? Start with low-cost, high-impact improvements like caulk or weatherstripping to draught-proof your home or loft insulation (starting at £300).

They went one step further and suggested that "Adding thick curtains, blinds, or carpets and rugs can also reduce heat loss."

The energy pundits went further to highlight: "Available until March 2025, the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) can cover up to 60% of insulation costs for eligible households."

Meanwhile, according to the Labour Party's efforts, the least energy-efficient homes are becoming cozier as government grants fund home improvements like better insulation and boiler switch-outs, reports Money Saving Expert. The renowned financial advice platform, established by Martin Lewis, reminds us that two schemes are up for grabs – the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme for those feeling the pinch, and the Great British Insulation Scheme, opening doors for an additional 400,000 homes, reports Birmingham Live.

The Energy Saving Trust has some top tips for homeowners looking to cut down on their heating bills and carbon footprint. They suggest: "There are many simple yet effective ways to insulate your home, which can significantly reduce heat loss while lowering your heating bills. Even little fixes around the home can mount up to significant savings in your energy bills. For example, fitting your hot water cylinder with an insulating jacket will save you £40 a year in Great Britain (GB) and £45 in Northern Ireland (NI) in heating costs. You'll also lower your annual carbon emissions by 160kg in GB and 230kg in NI."

They add, "Whether you are looking for quick wins around your home or a professional to install insulation, the suggestions below will help maintain a constant temperature in your home."
