In recent weeks, Britain has updated its travel guidance for citizens visiting the United States, adding a warning that violating U.S. entry rules could lead to arrest or detention.

Since taking office on January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued several immigration-related executive orders, tightening border policies, visa vetting procedures, and enforcement against undocumented migrants.

On Wednesday, Germany also updated its U.S. travel advisory, stressing that having a visa or entry waiver does not guarantee admission, following reports of several German nationals being detained at the border.

The latest British travel advice, published by the Foreign Office, now states:

"You should comply with all entry, visa, and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules."

Archived versions of the website indicate that, as of early February, the guidance only mentioned that U.S. authorities set and enforce entry rules, without the added warning about possible detention.

The Foreign Office declined to comment on the specific reason for the change or when exactly it was made, stating that travel advice is regularly reviewed to assist travelers in making informed decisions.

Earlier this month, media reports highlighted a case in which a British woman was detained at the U.S. border for more than 10 days due to a possible visa violation. The Foreign Office confirmed it was assisting the individual, who has since returned to the UK, according to local reports.
