A court in Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s daughters, Tulip and Azmina Siddiq, in connection with corruption cases related to the allocation of RAJUK plots.
On April 13, Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib accepted a chargesheet submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and ordered their arrest, stating that the accused are currently absconding, according to ACC Deputy Director Aminul Islam.
Previously, on April 10, the court had also ordered the arrest of 18 individuals, including Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul.
The ACC filed the three cases on January 12, 13, and 14, accusing Hasina, Rehana, their family members, former state minister Sharif Ahmed, Hasina’s former personal secretary Salauddin, and 14 officials from the housing and public works ministry. According to the chargesheets, six plots were unlawfully allocated to Hasina and her relatives, even though they did not meet the eligibility criteria.
In total, arrest warrants have now been issued for 53 individuals in connection with this corruption scandal. The accused include top political figures, bureaucrats, and associates linked to the illegal allocation of plots in the Purbachal New Town Project under RAJUK. The court has scheduled May 4, 2025, for the submission of execution reports on these arrest warrants.
