A 13-year-old girl who was discovered dead at a flat in Huddersfield earlier this week has been identified as Casey-Louise. She was found at the property on Monday, August 11, and despite being taken to hospital, she sadly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, August 12.
Originally from Manchester, Casey-Louise was remembered in a heartfelt family tribute shared online. The post read: “Suddenly and so unexpectedly, on Tuesday 12th August, our beautiful Casey-Louise gained her angel wings. Our family is completely heartbroken. We ask for privacy as we grieve this devastating loss.”
Another relative wrote: “Angry doesn’t even come close. We hope justice is served for our family. Rest in peace, little girl. Casey-Louise, forever 13.”
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was arrested earlier in the week on suspicion of rape and murder, as well as a separate rape offence involving a 16-year-old girl. He has since been released on conditional bail.
Detectives say the circumstances surrounding Casey-Louise’s death remain unclear, as a post-mortem examination did not confirm the cause of death.
DCI Stacey Atkinson, from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said on Thursday: “We continue to carry out extensive enquiries into the death of a 13-year-old girl at a flat on Sheepridge Road. The post-mortem could not determine the cause of death, so at present, we are treating it as unexplained. Our investigation is complex and will take time as we work to fully understand what happened. Specially trained officers are supporting the family through this difficult time.”
