Russia Launches Large-Scale Missile and Drone Attack on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
Russia has carried out a large-scale missile and drone assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, just hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced upcoming talks with the US on ending the three-year war.

Ukraine was subjected to a “massive missile and drone” attack, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko confirmed in a Facebook post. Authorities reported that at least 10 people, including a child, were injured.

“Russia is deliberately targeting ordinary Ukrainians by striking energy and gas production sites, aiming to cut off electricity and heating, and inflict maximum harm on civilians,” Halushchenko stated.

Ukrainian energy company DTEK reported that the attack caused significant damage to gas production facilities in the Poltava region. The Russian Defence Ministry later confirmed carrying out the strikes.

Targeting Ukraine’s Energy Grid
Throughout the war, Russia has frequently targeted Ukraine’s power grid, severely depleting the country’s electricity generation capacity and disrupting essential heating and water supplies. Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow of “weaponizing winter” to break civilian morale.

Western-supplied air defense systems remain vital for Ukraine’s resistance. However, future US support remains uncertain under President Donald Trump, who has halted American military aid to Kyiv in an attempt to pressure Zelensky into negotiations.

Diplomatic Efforts and European Support
In his nightly address on Thursday, Zelensky announced plans to visit Saudi Arabia on Monday for discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while his team will remain to hold talks with US officials.

He also welcomed the European Union’s initiative to strengthen the continent’s defenses, expressing hope that some of the planned investments could be directed toward bolstering Ukraine’s own defense industry.
