On the 29th of last month, London's Hyde Park became a piece of Suhrawardy Udyan or Paltan Maidan. Hundreds of Bangladeshis gathered there from different cities of the UK. This huge march was held in solidarity with the ongoing anti-government movement in Bangladesh by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP UK branch.
Approximately more than six to seven thousand BNP leaders and workers participated in this program. On the occasion of this program, there was a festive atmosphere in the UK BNP for more than a month. The campaign meetings in various cities were eye-catching.
The current leader of BNP is Mr. Tarique Rahman, His Father was the founder of the party and mother is the current chairperson. He is serving as the acting chairman of the party from abroad. He has been living in the UK for more than 15 years and from here he has been carrying out the regular activities of the party through various means. He has been participating in public gatherings and voicing his views for several years just in London City.
However, Mr. Tarique Rahman distributed leaflets after Friday prayers at the mosque near his house as part of the program campaign organized on 29th last. After seeing the party's huge agenda outside the country and Tarique Rahman's participation in the campaign, everyone was thinking that he himself will lead here and can give any important message in the future. People participated with great interest. The presence of Mr. Rahman was looking for everyone's eager attention. But sadly to everyone's disappointment, he did not appear. Apart from the BNP, many questions have been raised about his non-attendance among the Bangladeshi community. However, BNP leaders, on the condition of anonymity, say that Tarique did not consider it appropriate to be present due to security reasons.
After the historic gathering of Bangladeshis in Hyde Park in 1971 at the time of great independence, the largest expatriate gathering in memory was organized by BNP on August 29. When many people, including America, were protesting about the election system of Bangladesh, it was natural to expect that such a large gathering of people would respond and come to the media. But it is noteworthy that except for two online portals operated from Bangladesh, there was no news about it in any mass media in Mainstream. Even the BNP leaders of Dhaka were not seen to talk about such a huge gathering or even mention any word too.
The most surprising thing is that, thousands of people have gathered in the heart of London and the matter has not been noticed by any mainstream British media where their party leader lives. I don't know if the BNP leaders are bored with the media.
At the end of the program, two UK BNP leaders went to the British Prime Minister's residence number 10 Downing State and gave the memorandum. I don't know if they gave it to any senior officer or responsible person. Repeatedly wandering in the mind, then what is the achievement of the presence and participation of so many people only for posting the pictures in Facebook of UK BNP leaders?
If Tarique Rahman's security is a problem even in London, with that courage, how will he lead the movement to bring democracy in Bangladesh?
If seven thousand people are gathered and the news is not published on BBC or Sky News, not even any mainstream British media, then what is the success of this showdown?
