Following many shootings on a highway close to London on Saturday, there is a manhunt in progress in Kentucky.

Joseph A. Couch, 32, has been designated as a person of interest by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, alerting the public to the fact that he is armed and dangerous.
Around 18:00 local time (22:00 GMT), authorities were called to a complaint of gunfire from automobiles close to Interstate 75. This is when the incident started.

The local media said that gunfire might have come from a flyover or from a forested area close to the highway.
How many individuals have been hurt and whether any fatalities have been reported are still unknown.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office had earlier reported that there had been "numerous persons" shot.

A representative for the University of Kentucky Medical Centre in Lexington informed CBS News, the US news partner of the BBC, that the hospital had seen at least two patients as a result of the incident thus far, however no information was available regarding their health.

A representative for the Kentucky State Police, Trooper Scottie Pennington, advised the locals to remain indoors.

The public has been cautioned against approaching the person of interest.
The involvement of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in the search was also verified.

The governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, had earlier stated on social media that police had "shut the interstate down in both directions" close to the scene of the incident.
He asked people to "pray for everyone involved" and advised them to stay away from the area.

London, which is next to the Daniel Boone National Forest, is a small city with 8,000 residents.
