In a heartbreaking and heroic act, Madia Kauser, a 32-year-old muslim mother from Blackburn, sacrificed her life to save her daughter from a falling tree branch. The incident occurred on a Monday evening near Witton Country Park while Kauser was on a family walk with her husband, Wasim Khan, and their two children. The couple's five-year-old daughter was in a pushchair when the branch plummeted towards them. In a split-second decision, Kauser pushed the pushchair to safety, taking the full force of the impact herself, Daily Dazzling Dawn and understands.
The family's nine-year-old son and husband were just ahead and watched in horror, unable to intervene. Wasim Khan rushed to his wife's side, but little could be done. Her uncle, Zamir Khan MBE, confirmed that the little girl herself recounted her mother's heroic final action. He described Kauser as a "loving, doting mother and a very caring person." The entire family, including relatives who traveled from across the country, is in a state of shock and deep grief.
Following the tragedy, the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council launched an investigation and took immediate action. The specific tree from which the branch fell, a sycamore, was fully felled, along with other nearby trees as a precautionary measure. A council statement expressed deep sadness and offered condolences to the family, noting that the safety of the public in Witton Park is of paramount importance. The council confirmed that the sycamore tree was already scheduled for maintenance.
Kauser's death has been deemed non-suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner. Her funeral took place at the Madina mosque in Blackburn, with a large turnout of family and community members paying their respects. The community continues to mourn the loss of a beloved mother and wife whose final act was one of pure, unconditional love.
