Raju Mollah, 49, has been found guilty of attempting to murder his 22-year-old wife in a brutal Birmingham domestic violence case.

A Birmingham man, Raju Mollah, 49, has been convicted of the attempted murder of his wife, Ms. Mumtaz, who is less than half his age. Mollah was found guilty after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court for a premeditated and vicious attack on his 22-year-old wife on January 12. Mollah is currently being held in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced in November. The exact date of his sentencing has not been publicly announced.

The court heard that Mollah poured hot oil on his wife's face before subjecting her to a sustained physical assault. He was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.

During the trial, Mollah pleaded guilty to GBH but denied the attempted murder charge, claiming he did not intend to kill his wife. However, the prosecution successfully argued that his actions demonstrated a clear and deadly intent. The jury returned a guilty verdict on the more serious charge on August 18.

Investigating officers Rebecca Pugh and George Kawalek praised Ms. Mumtaz's extraordinary bravery throughout the ordeal and the court process. They stated, "This was a vicious attack, where he clearly tried to kill his wife. The victim has been very brave, having sustained significant and life-changing injuries, and thankfully Mollah will be spending a good amount of time behind bars.”
