Man Gets Suspended Term for Throwing Object at Farage
After being found guilty of hurling what looked to be a coffee cup at Nigel Farage during the most recent general election campaign, the man was given a suspended prison sentence.
Josh Greally, 28, was found guilty at Barnsley magistrates court of hurling objects at Reform UK leader, who was campaigning in the South Yorkshire town, and was given a six-week prison sentence with a 12-month suspension.
Greally was also mandated to complete 20 days of rehabilitative activities, 120 hours of unpaid labor, £85 in court expenses, and a £154 surcharge.
He had previously pleaded guilty to a public order offence in relation to the incident, which took place on 11 June in Barnsley town centre.
Greally was quickly arrested by police after he threw what appeared to be a coffee cup as well as another object at the politician, who was campaigning from the top deck of an open-top bus.
Farage, who is now the MP for Clacton, was standing at the top of the stairs on the vehicle, along with Reform UK supporters and journalists, when he heard the action and ducked.
The judge, Tim Spruce, stated during a previous June hearing that Greally seems to have thrown a coffee cup at the politician in the first instance, but it was unclear what the second object was. He speculated that it might have been paper or another cup.
Neither item made contact with Farage. The incident was recorded on cell phone video, but the court was informed that it was impossible to identify the objects.
