Barrister Kutub Uddin Shikder MBE. This barrister, who received the title of MBE from the Queen of Britain, is a well-known face of Bangladeshi television talk shows in Britain. He is the only barrister in the legal profession in Britain who took part in the parliamentary elections held in Bangladesh yesterday. He has lost the electoral security by participating in the nomination of Trinamul BNP party from Sylhet-5 parliamentary seat and getting 2207 votes.
The winner Hushamuddin Chowdhury got 47 thousand 153 votes in the election. His nearest rival Masuk Uddin Ahmad got 32 thousand 973 votes. The total casted vote in this constituency was 25.96 percent.
There were seven candidates in Sylhet-5 seat. Apart from Hushamuddin and Masuk Uddin, independent candidates and District Awami League Vice President Ahmed Al Kabir got 20,230 votes, Jatiya Party's Shabbir Ahmed got 124 votes, Trinamool BNP's Kutub Uddin Shikder got 2,207 votes, Bangladesh Congress's Badrul Alam got 159 votes and Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) Md. Khairul Islam got 214 votes. If a candidate does not get 12.5 percent of the votes cast in a constituency, the security money deposited with the candidature is forfeited according to the electoral rules of Bangladesh.
He has contributed to the development of his area for a long time in various ways including Shikdar Foundation College. Personally, he has been working in the service of the people in his constituency for a long time.
