  • Extremadura offers more than €15,000 to attract digital nomads.

The regional government of Extremadura, Spain, is offering over €15,000 to attract digital nomads to the area, despite being one of the least populated regions in the country.

Compared to Madrid, the cost of living in Badajoz, an Extremadurian city, is about 30% lower for public transport, utilities, and dining out, as reported by Numbeo.

To support the relocation of 200 remote workers and digital nomads, the authorities in Extremadura have set aside a total of €2 million.

Extremadura offers a high quality of life. It is a natural paradise with exceptional gastronomy. Attracting these high-skilled professionals with international incomes will have a very positive impact on our economy. They will boost local consumption, enrich regional talent and create significant networks and opportunities.

Requirements for Extremadura's Digital Nomad Visa Program

In particular, Extremadura's Digital Nomad Visa seeks to draw in highly skilled workers from the tech sector.

It is necessary for those who are eager to operate entirely online and remotely using telematics, information fields, media, and IT systems exclusively.

In order to be eligible for this program, foreign nationals must make the commitment to work remotely and reside in Extremadura for a minimum of two years.

As long as the applicant has not resided in Extremadura over the preceding six months, both foreign nationals and residents of other regions of Spain may benefit from Extremadura's Digital Nomad Visa program.

Foreign nationals who are interested in applying may do so, but they must be lawfully living in Spain and have a foreign identity number (NIE), which can be found on their non-EU TIE card or green EU certificate.

Non-EU citizens may also apply if they are currently enrolled in Spain's program for digital nomad visas.
