The UK has been informed of the precise date in October that it will get its first "battered" snowfall of the autumn and winter season. As we approach Christmas and the tenth month of the year, the UK experiences snowfall and flurry of the white stuff.

Early predictions from weather mapping company WX Charts, which creates weather maps based on Met Desk data, point to a decline in conditions as the holiday season draws near. October is expected to bring a wintry chill to the UK's north, according to WXCharts.

Snow is forecast to sweep across the Cairngorms, Ullapool, Inverness and Fort William. As well as the Scottish Highlands, though, the north of England won't be spared - with Lake District forecast to receive flurries at the beginning of the month.

Carlisle is also at risk. The Met Office forecast from October 1 to October 6, as the month of Halloween kicks off next week, explains: "Outbreaks of rain, which could be heavy in places, across southern areas on Friday will gradually clear away to the southeast.

"Sunny spells and a few showers are expected to the north of this. Through Saturday and Sunday, a good deal of fine weather across the UK. Many areas will be dry with spells of sunshine, although a few showers are likely in places, particularly in parts of the north and northwest.
