The man who admitted to stabbing a Bangladeshi with a kitchen knife in May will be punished on October 23. This came after the sentencing submissions and mitigation hearing on Thursday before Magistrate Emily Zazariko Vagibule Pakoa. Nigel Haibagau pleaded guilty to one count of Acts Intended to Cause Grievous Harm, which carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment. The complainant in this case is a male from Bangladesh who worked as a cashier at Suba Enterprise Limited, a shop located directly across from the White River Clinic, at the time the incident occurred. He knew the defendant since he was a regular customer at the shop, and the defendant lived nearby. Before the event, the defendant entered the shop and grabbed several things.But Haibagau instead threatened the complainant that he would kill him.

On 26 May, at around 3 p.m., the complainant was at the shop counter of the shop when the defendant walked into the shop with a kitchen knife.

He entered the shop, and without saying anything, he walked straight to the counter and hit the counter with the hand that he held the knife and went on to stab him in the left side of his head.

After this, Haibagau escaped but was arrested shortly after.

The complainant received an injury to his head and was assisted to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for medical assistance.

He was discharged from the hospital on May 28.

The defendant was just recently released from prison after serving jail time for a charge of grievous harm for a different incident.
